WORK OR PLAY

This one is for all the cricket freaks, software engineers and everyone in between. For a long time sports and work have been considered totally opposite to each other. It’s natural to think that a player will not be able to grasp even the basics of math, let alone trigonometry or calculus and a bookworm will not be able to even hold a bat properly.

Such thoughts have placed a wall between sports and work. If you are born in a family of engineers, you better stop reading this cause you have tons of sample papers to solve and if you are an athlete, you probably don’t even know blogs exist. If there is a five marker in your exam asking you to differentiate between working and playing, 45 out off 50 students will write it glitch free.

What about the remaining 5? Well, they know that sports and work are actually not that different. what is the difference between a manager and a captain, both of them are being tested for their leadership skills, if they win then the entire team wins and if they lose then they are together in that. Software engineers know how to run complicated programs and players know the rules in and out.

But both of them teach us the basics of life. Sure, they teach us teamwork, leadership skills and all that, but most importantly they teach us that success and failure are two inevitable parts of life. Both will come. One day you might succeed and the other you may fail. Both, work and play teach us that if you win don’t get too self confident, you lose don’t jump off a cliff.

Understanding this almost invisible crack in the wall, we can break it and show striking improvement in whatever we take up in life. So hey engineer-to-be, if you are still reading this, now is the best time to hit a home run in your JEE Mains.
